Height: 15′-30′ Spread: 12′-20′. Native tree with an upright oval growing habit, medium green foliage and pale red-brown bark. Maroon and gold catkins emerge in early spring. Yellow fall foliage gives way to interesting cone-like fruits in winter. Does well in wet areas. Hardy to 10,000′ elevation. Can be grouped in groves like aspen for an interesting landscape planting. Full sun to part shade. Zone 2.
