Height: 2′-4′ Spread: 2′-4′. A small to medium shrub native across the US. White flowers bloom in small clusters in late spring. The summer foliage is shiny green on top and tomentose on the underside. Dry capsule fruits turn bright red in July & August. Typically found in dry open plains, sandy or rocky soils, as well as, riverbanks and woodlands. The leaves, dried, are used as tea, which reportedly tastes very much like chinese green tea, without the caffeine. Full sun. Zone 4.
