Height: 6′-12′ Spread: 6′-12′. Native to the Rocky Mountains from 5000-9500 feet along stream banks. Young twigs are yellow in color and darken with age. Female flowers mature into capsules that burst with a white fluff containing seeds that is then carried on the winds of early summer. Prefers a moist site. Full sun. Zone 3.
